Your Questions Answered

Here we have listed our most commonly asked questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you can’t find the answer below.

At Sunnyfields Pet Crematorium an individual cremation means that your pet will be handled and cremated on its own. We do not cremate several pets on numbered trays at the same time and we do not communally cremate pets and then separate ashes out afterwards. Our process is a single cremation with no other pet – only your friend and no-one else’s.

What are your opening hours?

We are available whenever you need us – we have no open or closing times and we operate on Bank Holidays and any public Holiday – please contact 07980196163 if you are out of normal working hourse and John will be able to help you.

How do I know I will get my pet’s ashes back?

Sunnyfields is a family run business and therefore we only cremate  individually with proper care and respect. Each pet is cremated on their own thus ensuring that you receive your own pet’s ashes. A certificate or cremation is given to you along with your pets ashes.

We chose NEVER to  get involved in any mass cremations or the incineration of Clinical Waste and ONLY carry out GENUINE INDIVIDUAL CREMATIONS – if you decide not to use our services please check with the crematorium you are thinking of using that their cremation process is purely individual.

What services will my vet offer me?

This will depend on the veterinary practice that you use. Sadly, not all vets give you the option of choosing between different crematoriums. This is quite shocking given that different crematoriums can offer very dissimilar services. Some veterinary practices may not even ask whether you want your pet cremated individually or with others so it is important that you think ahead to make sure you get the service you want. It is better that you contact your local crematorium directly to discuss the services that they offer before the sad day. This often gives people peace of mind in knowing their exact wishes will be carried out.

If your vet has suggested an alternative crematorium to Sunnyfields  Crematorium then please check what they are offering and that it is purely a single cremation.

How are pets collected?

We are able to collect from your home, by appointment after euthanasia or from your veterinary surgery, upon request. All collections are made in discreetly a no marked vehicle.

How will Sunnyfields treat my friend.

As a family business it is vital for us to treat  all pets that come to Sunnyfields with the dignity they deserve and as if they actually belonged to us. Your beloved friend will be handled carefully at all times and we assure you that they will be treated with the great deal of respect that they deserve

Can I bring my pet to Sunnyfields myself?

Yes, by prior appointment via a  telephone

What happens when I arrive at Sunnyfields?

On arrival your pet is placed in our Chapel Of Rest – so that you can spend time with them before joining us in reception to discuss your requirements and tell us a little about your friend as it is always nice to hear the many times you had with them.

When will my pet’s cremation take place?

We aim to cremate all pets within the same day of receiving your consent to go ahead with the cremation.

What happens after cremation?

You may wish to come back to Sunnyfields  to collect your pet’s ashes. Alternatively we can return ashes directly to your home or your vet, which we are most willing to do, although an additional charge is made for this service.

Can I have my pet cremated and collected their ashes on the same day?

Yes. We can carry out an immediate cremation upon request. An additional charge is made for this service.

Can I make prior arrangements with Sunnyfields before my pet is put to sleep?

Yes. Many people contact us well in advance of the death of their pet to make sure that their exact wishes can be carried out. The details of both the pets and their owners are kept on file until our help is needed. We always suggest owners contact their vets directly to ensure that their pet comes to Sunnyfields and is NOT  sent for mass cremation.

Do I need an appointment to visit Sunnyfields?

Yes, we ask that all visitors please book an appointment prior to coming to Sunnyfields.

How long will my appointment last?

Appointment times can vary but please use the below as a guide:

Collection of ashes: 15 minutes

Bringing your pet in to us : 50 minutes

Same Day: 50 minutes

How and when should I pay for the cremation?

You can pay for our services by most major credit and debit cards (i.e. Switch & Delta cards). We reserve the right to request payment in advance.

What happens to my pet’s bedding, basket or carrier?

You can choose to have blankets, toys and collars either, cremated, disposed of or returned to you. Carriers or baskets should be taken away with you when you bring your pet in, however if they are left at Sunnyfields, we will dispose of them or donate them to charity if they are not collected after 3 weeks of your pet being cremated. This also applies to blankets and bedding.

If you do choose to have bedding returned to you, please be aware that we do not have the facilities onsite to wash the bedding items for you. We will spray any bedding that has become heavily soiled with antibacterial deodorising spray before sealing the bag we return it to you in, however, there is still a chance that the bedding could smell.

If I would like a small amount of ash for jewellery can you provide this?

Yes we can offer a small amount of ash to be put in a pouch separately if you wish – please ask us when talking to us about your cremation.

Do you offer paw prints and fur cuttings?

Can I have a pet funeral or remembrance service at sunnyfields?

Yes. A funeral or memorial ceremony is a way of saying goodbye to a pet, just as it is a way of saying goodbye to a person. It’s about saying that this life mattered, that the love and grief you feel is not trivial or unimportant, and it provides comfort and closure. You are more than welcome to bring your own person, family or vicar to our premises.

Is Sunnyfields part of a large nationwide Group or entity?

No. We are a family owned crematorium who pride ourselves on being wholly owned and are not in anyway a subsidiary of any other company..
